Bahamas police search for fugitive pilot
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Police in the Bahamas are searching for a pilot who crashed a small plane into a police car after landing at a tiny airstrip with seven migrants believed to have entered the country without permission.
The pilot escaped on foot after jumping from the twin-engine Piper plane, which rammed into a police jeep along the runway. The late Sunday collision occurred shortly after the small plane touched down at an airstrip on Abaco Island.
Two of the four police officers in the jeep were treated for minor injuries.
Four Dominican nationals and three Haitians, including a toddler, on the plane were not injured. Authorities have detained seven migrants.
Police Superintendent Noel Curry said Monday that investigators believe the pilot was a local man and intentionally swerved the plane into the police car.
