NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour NASCAR Winter Heat

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ Chris Raudman showed why he is the 1996 NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour champion Sunday.

Using his head as well as his gas pedal, Raudman outlasted an all-star field and won the NFSWT Winter Heat race at Tucson Raceway Park.

Raudman started on the pole and led the first 65 laps of 150 laps before giving way to NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series regular Nipper Alsup.

But Raudman got the lead back when he passed former series champion Lance Hooper, and led the final 49 laps.

Bryan Germone, Windsor, Calif., was second, followed by Hooper, Palmdale, Calif.; Michael Alsup, Bakersfield, Calif.; and Ron Eaton, Tacoma, Wash. Raudman, Germone, Alsup and Eaton drove Chevrolets, while Hooper was in a Pontiac.

Raudman won $4,875 while averaging 54.029 mph.
