Bridgeport ‘Get Healthy Walk ‘n Talk’ runs through June 8
BRIDGEPORT — Lace up your sneakers and head over to Seaside Park for the next few Saturdays for the annual “Get Healthy Walk ’n Talk.”
The city’s Health & Social Services Department kicked off the annual walks on Saturday, May 4. The six-week community walking series will run through June 8. Those interested in attending should meet at Seaside Park near the horse stables at 9 a.m. The walks go until 10:30 a.m.
Each Saturday includes a specific topic of focus for discussion. This Saturday’s topic is health and nutrition.
On May 25, the topic will be risk factor modification to prevent heart attacks and stroke. The June 1 topic will be breast cancer awareness and nutrition. And the final June 8 topic will be general health, social services and physical therapy.
Maritza Bond, the director of Health & Social Services, said in a prepared statement that she encourages everyone in the community to join the walks and discussions.
“This initiative not only gives residents the opportunity to develop healthier habits, but also gives them the chance to engage in health-related conversations with local professionals in the medical field who will be volunteering their time,” Bond said.
