GHS girls swim team races by Ridgefield
Lilly Clisham, Kelly Montesi and Meghan Lynch each won two individual events for the Greenwich High School girls swimming team in its 103-77 road win over FCIAC foe Ridgefield on Wednesday.
The win moved the Cardinals’ record to 7-0.
“Our team swam really tough,” GHS coach Lorrie Hokayem said. “I’m really happy with how we are finishing races. The second half of our races we are looking really strong.”
Clisham, a senior, won the 200-meter freestyle in a 2:11.29. Teammate Emily Warner finished second (2:12.09), followed by Ridgefield’s Micaela O’Malley (2:12.40).
Clisham also placed first in the 400 freestyle, touching the wall in 4:47.63. Kellen Carlson of Greenwich was the runner-up (4:55.77) and teammate Julia Lucy finished third (5:02.27). Montesi, a senior, won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:24.31. Anna Turner of Ridgefield placed second in 2:31.45 and Greenwich’s Kate Ennis took third (2:32.30).
Montesi was also the winner in the 100 backstroke (1:06.78). Julie Weiner of the Tigers was second in 1:09.44 and Ennis finished third (1:13.42).
Lynch, a freshman had a winning effort in the 100 freestyle (59.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.97). Anna Turner of Ridgefield was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle (1:00.96) and Greenwich’s Julia Merrill took second (1:01.44).
The Cardinals’ divers continued to excel as Kate Russsack (278.95), Maddie Muldoon (261.35) and Casey Kirsch (260.65) were 1-2-3.
“Our divers get better and better with each meet,” Hokayem said.
In the 200 medley relay, Samantha Ennis, Lynch, Montesi and Taylor Schinto finished first in 2:03.40. Merrill, Warner, Lynch and Montesi had the top time in the 400 freestyle relay, while Merrill, Warner, Louisa Bjerke and Schinto were second in the 200 freestyle relay.
“Our relays were awesome today,” Hokayem said. “We had three really solid performances against Ridgefield, which had really strong relay teams.”
Merrill was the 50 freestyle winner (28.53), followed by Schinto (28.61), while Warner registered a winning time in the 100 butterfly (1:07.24).
Greenwich hosts Trumbull on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
“I’m really impressed with the mentality and attitude toward competing this team has shown,” Hokayem said.
