Shot fired at state trooper on highway; 2 arrested
A gunshot was fired in the direction of a state trooper parked on the side of an interstate highway in eastern Connectuicut early Monday morning. The trooper was not hit.
Just before 2 a.m., “The cruiser was parked I-395 southbound near Exit 18 (in Norwich) in the gore with all lights off conducting motor vehicle enforcement,” said Trooper Kelly Grant. “Unknown if they were shooting at the cruiser or if they saw the cruiser. The area is illuminated by street lamps.
“Troopers stopped the vehicle and initiated an investigation. Through the course of the investigation it was determined that the vehicle passenger, Wesley Hine, fired a Glock 19 9mm handgun out of the passenger side window towards the cruiser,” Grant said.
The vehicle operator, Joshua Richardson, and Wesley Hine were taken into custody and transported to Troop E where they were fingerprinted and photographed.
Hine, 23, of Lisbon, was charged with unlawful discharge of firearms, illegal carry of fiirearm, under the influence of drugs/alcohol and reckless endangerment.
Richardson, 23, of Lisbon, was charged with conspiracy.
Richardson and Hine were released after posting bond pending their court date.
