Neglect charges after baby suffocates on pillow in car seat
FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 3-month-old child in South Carolina died after a couple left the infant face down on a pillow in a car seat.
The State Law Enforcement Division said 27-year-old Tempestt Latabotha James and 26-year-old Ledarius Thomas are both charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
Arrest warrants say the child suffocated May 26 at an Effingham home, and an autopsy found the infant had suffered broken ribs and several leg fractures that happened at different times.
Thomas and Latabotha each face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
It wasn’t known if they had lawyers.
