4 GOP challengers file for Wyoming US Senate seat
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A fourth candidate has emerged to challenge Wyoming U.S. Sen. John Barrasso in the Republican primary.
John Holtz of Laramie is a 68-year-old retired U.S. Air Force veteran, attorney, judge and current Albany County GOP member. He has never held an elective office before.
Holtz tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that he’s more conservative and thinks he’d better protect national security than Barrasso.
The primary is Aug. 21.
Barrasso easily defeated his past primary and general election opponents in 2008 and 2014.
While the GOP primary for U.S. Senate has attracted five candidates, only one Democrat, Gary Trauner, of Wilson, has filed for the seat as of Wednesday.
