STANTON - A former Norfolk man is in custody in Shawnee County, Kansas after a felony arrest warrant was issued following a four month investigation by the Stanton County Sheriff’s office into the sexual assault of a pre-teen girl more than seven years ago in Stanton.

According to Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger, 59-year-old Paul Lovell was arrested on Wednesday in Topeka, Kansas on the warrant charging first degree sexual assault of a child, intentional child abuse, and third degree sexual assault.

Unger says Lovell was identified as a suspect and initially cooperated with the Sheriff’s office in the investigation before quickly leaving the Norfolk area.

Lovell is being held in a Kansas jail pending his extradition back to Nebraska that may take several weeks.
