Guitarist Bola Sete Dies at Age 63
GREENBRAE, Calif. (AP) _ Bola Sete, a Brazilian-born jazz, bossa nova and classical guitarist, died after being hospitalized for lung cancer and pneumonia. He was 63.
Sete, who died Saturday at Marin General Hospital, came to the United States in 1959 to play music in a San Francisco hotel.
After his career was boosted by an appearance at the 1962 Monterey Jazz Festival, he traveled and played with Dizzy Gillespie, with Vince Guaraldi and with his own trio.
Among his more recent albums are ″Ocean 1″ and ″Jungle Suite.″
His wife, An Sete, said a memorial concert is planned.
