Wagener man charged in connection to child pornography found on his phone
A Wagener man was charged Monday in connection to an incident in 2016 where child pornography was found on a phone.
Shannon Heath, 40, of the 700 block of Seivern Road, is charged with five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to jail records.
On Nov. 3, 2016, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Kneece Mill Road in Batesburg after a woman found child pornography on the suspect’s phone, according to the report.
The woman said the suspect and her daughter are in a relationship and were staying in a camper on her property, the report states.
The suspect and his girlfriend were then moving their things over to a home on Seivern Road, and the suspect said he had misplaced his phone during the move, according to the report.
The woman who called police said she found the suspect’s phone in the camper and after looking through the pictures they found “several hundred sexually explicit pictures of children,” the report states.
The woman told police the age of the children in the photos and videos ranged from 5 to 15 years old, according to the report.
Investigators determined the phone did belong to Heath and he was arrested Monday. He was taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he is still being held Wednesday afternoon.
