Ludington High School student raises cancer research funds
Ludington High School senior Mackenzie Howe is raising money for cancer research.
Mackenzie is nearing the end of a seven-week campaign to raise money for the nonprofit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which funds cancer research and the development of new treatments and medicine. The campaign began Jan. 10 and ends Feb. 28.
The goal of Mackenzie — and her team of supportive family and friends — is to raise at least $5,000 for the cause.
Mackenzie has been contacting local businesses and hundreds of individuals, encouraging them to donate, and probably 75 or more have given to the campaign so far, she said. Fundraising efforts have included a mass mailing to at least 200 recipients, a radio interview in Grand Rapids and numerous face-to-face meetings.
“It’s so nice to see our neighbors and everybody we know contributing to this great cause,” Mackenzie said...
