_ CONNECTICUT-CONGRESS: HARTFORD, Conn. _ A new member of Connecticut’s congressional delegation will be sworn into office with the rest of the incoming 116th Congress. Democrat Jahana Hayes, a 45-year-old former national teacher of the year, will be the first black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress. She’s scheduled to appear at Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony, to be held on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. SENT.
_ HERB FARM DISPUTE: COVENTRY, Conn. _ The widower of famed herbalist Adelma Grenier Simmons is facing a deadline to leave her once-acclaimed farm in Connecticut in a dispute over the property’s fall into disrepair. A state judge has ordered 81-year-old Edward Cook to remove his possessions, including several animals, from the Coventry farm by Sunday. SENT.
_ HARTFORD SHOOTING: HARTFORD, Conn. _ Hartford Police are investigating a shooting at a hotel parking lot on New Year’s Eve that left two people injured. Officials say two men in their 20s were shot at the Residence Inn parking lot on Main Street in Hartford. SENT.
_ FATAL CRASH: COVENTRY, Conn. _ Police say a 20-year-old man has been killed in a car crash on New Year’s Eve in Coventry. The Hartford Courant reports that Benjamin Norman, of Coventry, was driving on Daly Road and crashed early Monday night. SENT.
_ HARTFORD STABBING: WORCESTER, Mass. _ Police say the 5-year-old son of a woman who was stabbed in Connecticut has been found in Worcester. The Telegram & Gazette reports that police say the boy was found wandering on Providence Street in Worcester on Tuesday. He was not injured, but he was taken to a hospital to be checked. SENT.
_ NEW YEAR’S HIKES: HARTFORD, Conn. _ Connecticut park officials are offering free guided hikes in 10 state parks to mark the start of the New Year. The State Parks First Day Hikes are part of a national initiative on Tuesday. SENT.
