Somerset County gas well fire triggers precautionary evacuations
A gas well fire in rural Somerset County Thursday morning prompted the evacuation of several residences as a precaution, according to emergency dispatchers.
The leak was reported just before 9 a.m. near the 2500 block of East Mud Pike, northwest of Berlin in the central portion of the county. No injuries were immediately reported.
The well belongs to Xtreme Energy, according to the Daily American of Somerset.
Berlin Volunteer Fire Department assisted ambulance crews in the evacuations within 1,000 feet of the well, according to dispatchers.
