Isla-Mejico pretrial continued, again
An attorney for vehicular homicide suspect Rudy Isla-Mejico postponed his client’s preliminary hearing during a Thursday morning court hearing.
Jackson attorney John Robinson appeared with Isla-Mejico in Teton County Circuit Court and said he would be asking for a continuation to review new materials.
Judge James Radda asked Robinson if they would be holding the preliminary hearing that day.
“The short answer is, ‘Not today,’” Robinson told Radda in court.
Radda continued the case to 10:15 a.m. Sept. 21.
Robinson said he needed the opportunity to review the new information and see if there is a need for a preliminary hearing. But Robinson also said the preliminary hearing might not happen.
“I would say there is a strong likelihood that there will not be a preliminary hearing,” Robinson said in court.
Isla-Mejico is facing two felonies — aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated assault and battery — following the crash he was involved in on June 30. Bob Arndt died in the head-on, and police say Isla-Mejico was driving drunk.
If Robinson waives the preliminary hearing, Isla-Mejico will be arraigned in Teton County District Court.
