EagleJays lose to DeForest
JEFFERSON — Dane Jensen had the only first-place finish of the night for the Jefferson/Cambridge EagleJays, who were defeated 120-50 in a nonconference prep boys swim dual against DeForest on Thursday night.
Jensen completed the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 21.39 seconds. He out-touched DeForest swimmer Ben Jaccard by more than four seconds.
“Dane has been working really hard in practice to improve his times across the board, so it was great to see his excitement when he saw his time improved by almost 6 seconds,” first-year Jefferson/Cambridge coach Emily Lynch said.
Jensen, Alex Ellifson and Trevor Leto each claimed second-place finishes in other events to add to the EagleJays’ cause. Ellifson finished the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:14.34, which was about four seconds behind the leader. Leto finished the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:08.26, which was six seconds off the leader. Jensen earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.06.
Ellifson took fourth place in the 500 freestyle behind teammate Stone Farruggio (5:53.58) in third place. Ellifson completed the race in an unofficial time of 6:14.8, which was 20 seconds faster than his previous best. His race time was unofficial because he swam an extra lap due to a system error.
“Stone continues to make improvements in an event he began feeling unsure about. Alex has had to be pulled from the 500 to benefit the team in other events, but was able to compete in it again tonight,” Lynch said. “We are very proud of both of these boys in the improvements they are making in an event not many enjoy swimming.”
Jefferson/Cambridge will host St. John’s Military Academy and Beaver Dam Wayland in the Cambridge area swimming pool Tuesday at 6 p.m.
