Complaint: Man pulled gun on officer after brief foot chase
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A complaint released by Louisiana State Police says a man fatally shot by a city officer had pulled a gun on a clerk, then brought it out again and refused to follow the officer’s orders, starting a brief foot chase.
The initial complaint says 26-year-old Juston Joseph Landry was shot several times about 1 a.m. Jan. 11, during an encounter with the Lake Charles officer after the chase. It doesn’t describe the encounter.
KPLC-TV reports the complaint was released Thursday in response to its public records request. KPLC says it asked for the officer’s name and for body camera and dashcam videos, but state police withheld those as part of their continuing investigation.
The American Press reports that several community organizations also have called for release of such information.
