Vice president will headline U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s campaign ‘kickoff’
South Carolina’s senior senator will jumpstart his 2020 re-election campaign this weekend, and the vice president is lending a hand.
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and Vice President Mike Pence, both Republicans, will travel to Myrtle Beach on Saturday morning for a “kickoff brunch” and then head to Greenville later that day for a “kickoff reception,” according to an announcement from Graham’s campaign.
The Myrtle Beach event starts at 11 a.m. The Greenville event starts at 3:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and can be bought online.
Graham – who swung from critic to confidant in terms of President Donald Trump – is seeking a fourth term in the Senate.
The senator, in a prepared statement, said he was “honored” to have Pence’s support.
“The vice president has been a strong ally and close friend in the efforts to confirm conservative judges like Brett Kavanaugh, strengthen our southern border, cut taxes, and rebuild our military,” Graham continued. “I know South Carolinians are excited and look forward to welcoming him back to the Palmetto State.”
Pence is no stranger to South Carolina and the CSRA. In the most recent elections, Pence stumped for S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster as well as Brian Kemp, who ultimately was elected Georgia’s governor.
In late February, Pence toured – and touted – an opportunity zone in Columbia with Graham’s counterpart, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
