FOXBORO -- The Patriots got star receiver Julian Edelman back on the practice field this afternoon after a one-day absence.

His return coincides with the absence of tight end Rob Gronkowski, however.

Gronkowski has battled ankle and back injuries in recent weeks. Back spasms prevented him from playing in Week 7 at Chicago. He made the trip to Buffalo and caught three passes for 43 yards in Week 8.

Right guard Shaq Mason missed his second consecutive practice with a calf injury. Mason exited during the second half of the Bills game and did not return.

Backup offensive lineman Brian Schwenke (foot) and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby (unknown) were also absent this afternoon.

Tight end Jacob Hollister (hamstring) and defensive end Deatrich Wise (illness) returned.

Hollister has appeared in just three games this season.
