Girls hockey | Lourdes wins Schwan’s Cup opener

BLAINE — Rochester Lourdes got off to a good start at the Schwan’s Cup, Silver Division tournament on Wednesday. Emma Schmitz had a three-point game and Abby Wick had two assists in the Eagles’ 4-2 victory against Duluth.

No. 6-ranked Lourdes (7-5-1) held Duluth to just 12 shots on goal.

Duluth led 1-0 after one period, but Clara Billings scored 50 seconds into the second period, then Maggie Hanzel added a goal late in the period for a 2-1 lead.

Emma Schmitz scored twice in the third period, netting the game-winning goal at the 5:34 mark and adding an insurance goal 8:56 into the period.

Corrin Hanson made 10 saves in the win for Lourdes, which will face Bloomington Jefferson in the tournament semifinals at 7:30 p.m. today.
