Balkan well up and running
BALKAN TOWNSHIP — A newly drilled well at the Balkan Community Center has passed mandatory testing and is now operational.
Township Supervisor Brad Strgar said the Minnesota Department of Health sent the Balkan Township Board of Supervisors written confirmation that samples collected were in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Results.
The notification was a follow-up from October, when the board received a verbal notice that the preliminary samples had passed, according to Township Clerk Anita Novak.
The township recently removed portable handwashing stations that were installed back in 2015, when it was discovered an old well at the community center tested positive for a form of coliform bacteria.
