Orangemen claim Class B State Championship
OMAHA -- The Beatrice boys track and field team claimed the Class B State Championship on Saturday.
The Orangemen to got a big boost from the returning Cam Jurgens. The Husker football recruit claimed All-Class Gold in both the shot put and discus to get Beatrice 20 points.
Jurgens’ winning shot put throw was 59-03, which was good enough for his third straight championship in that event. His discus throw of 169-03 allowed him to claim his fourth straight discus championship.
Beatrice also got a state championship from its 400-relay team of Andrew Mahoney, Dillon Buss, Zach Thies and Dillon Damme. They had a winning time of 43.78.
The Orangemen racked up points in the sprinting events as well. They got a third place finish from Dillon Damme in the 100-dash while Andrew Mahoney finished sixth in the same event.
In the 200-meter dash, Mahoney finished fourth while Damme finished sixth. Mahoney also picked up a fifth place finish in the 400-dash.
Austin Hinz also picked up points for Beatrice with a fifth place finish in the 300-hurdles.
