Baby On Top 10 In Photo Contest; Voting Continues
PITTSTON TWP.—Ten months ago, Fran and Simone Mecadon received one of life’s greatest gifts — a beautiful baby girl they named Ophelia.
The little girl with the big blue eyes stops people in their tracks as they comment on how beautiful she is. Since this was happening quite a bit, Ophelia’s mother Simone Mecadon decided to enter her daughter into a well-known, nationwide competition on “Live! with Kelly and Ryan.” However, she never expected what was to come next.
Mecadon was watching the show — one of her favorites — one morning when she noticed they were hosting their own “Oh Baby” photo contest.
“In that moment my husband looked at me and said, well, why not?” Mecadon said. “So, I sent in pictures and entered her into the contest.”
Round one lasted from May 14 until June 1, so there were quite a few weeks before a decision was made and Mecadon said she even forgot about the contest. But then Mecadon found out Ophelia made the top 100. During the week of June 25, finalists were shown during each episode of “Live! with Kelly and Ryan” and the public chose the top 10.
On July 3, as the top 10 finalists’ names were announced live on television, Mecadon heard her daughter’s name. Ophelia had made the top 10, and her mother was ecstatic.
“I was proud,” Mecadon said. “Just so proud. It’s really special to see her name and picture on national television. I was so excited for her; I started jumping up and down and screaming so much that I actually scared her and made her cry. But, she was over it two seconds later because she really is the happiest baby I’ve ever met, and I’m not just saying that because I’m her mom.”
Alicia Giambra, Ophelia’s godmother, stayed tuned to the competition even while she was at work because she was so excited.
“I know Ophelia has what it takes to win,” Giambra said. “She is gorgeous, like a real life doll and she has the personality to top it. She’s just awesome. I hope everyone watches, votes and Ophelia makes it to the top five and of course all the way to No. 1 as well.”
On Tuesday, the show will announce who has made the top five and the public will then vote again on the winner.
Simone Mecadon said she’s just happy her daughter made it this far and that all the babies competing in the contest are beautiful.
“We’re really happy with where we made it and to represent our little town of Pittston,” Mecadon said. “All the babies are beautiful and we wish them all good luck. Of course, I think my daughter has a great chance to win, but it doesn’t matter what happens because we already won the grand prize with a blessed, wonderfully happy baby, who is smiling all the time.”
Tune in to “Live! with Kelly and Ryan” at 9 a.m. Tuesday to see if Ophelia makes the top five.
