Virtua completes acquisition of Lourdes Health System
MARLTON, N.J. (AP) — Virtua has completed its acquisition of the Lourdes Health System in a roughly $60 million deal that combines two major hospital chains in southern New Jersey.
The deal was finalized Monday. Virtua and Pennsylvania-based Maxis Health System — Lourdes’ parent company — had agreed to the merger in June 2018.
Marlton-based Virtua took ownership of all Lourdes facilities, including Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden and Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro. The Camden hospital has added Virtua to its name, while the latter facility is now known as Virtua Willingboro Hospital.
Virtua already owned hospitals in Voorhees, Mount Holly and Marlton.
Besides the five hospitals, the combined system will operate 280 care locations and 100-plus buildings. It also has more than 13,000 employees.
