BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) — Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick is laying off 16 employees because of unpaid MaineCare debt and falling revenues.

Parkview CEO and President Randee Reynolds said the hospital had no choice other than to reduce staff because of the government's unpaid debt and fewer patients.

The hospital says the state currently owes it about $3.1 million in reimbursements for MaineCare, the state's version of Medicaid.

The cuts represent about 5 percent of the 55-bed hospital's workforce.
