BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Montana State has decided not to renew the contract of men’s basketball coach Brian Fish, whose teams posted a 65-92 record over the past five seasons.

Athletic director Leon Costello said Sunday the search for a new coach begins immediately.

The Bobcats went 7-23 during Fish’s first season and posted a 61-70 mark over the next four years. However, MSU never earned higher than a sixth seed in the Big Sky Conference tournament. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports Fish’s Bobcats went a combined 1-18 against rival Montana and Weber State, the top programs in the conference.

His teams never posted better than a .500 record, but MSU did get a win in this year’s Big Sky tournament for the first time since 2009.

Fish’s contract expires on June 30.
