Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a Kosciusko County Jail inmate.

State police said they were called after the inmate was found unresponsive in his jail cell about 1 p.m. Monday. Officers tried CPR, and the inmate was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity will be released after an autopsy and family notification, state police said.

Chemical agent used on barricaded man

A man barricaded himself inside a Fort Wayne home for three hours Monday morning.

Fort Wayne police were called to the 3700 block of Chestnut Street just before 5 a.m. when a woman called 911 about a disturbance inside the home, police said.

The Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called because the woman told police the man was armed with a gun, police said.

The man refused to leave the house, police said, so officers used a loudspeaker and called him on the phone to try to get him to leave.

Officers used a flash-bang device inside the home, but the man still refused to leave, police said. Just after 8 a.m., police used a chemical agent, and the man surrendered.

No one was injured during the standoff, and the suspect was interviewed by police. It was unclear whether he will face criminal charges.

Bluffton man ID’d as victim of fatal crash

The Allen County coroner Monday identified a man who died in a car crash just before 11 p.m. Friday near Comer and Yoder roads.

Jason D. Scott, 45, of Bluffton died from blunt force injuries. The coroner ruled his death an accident.

Scott is the 13th person to die this year in a crash in Allen County, the coroner said.
