Akron man sentenced to life in prison in fatal shooting at sports bar

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man was sentenced to life in prison in a shooting that left one man dead and another wounded outside a bar last year, prosecutors said.

Queitin Tyler, 34, was found guilty last month of murder and felonious assault in the October 2017 death of Darian Hardison, 26, who was shot outside Halftime Sports Bar on South Main Street near Archwood Avenue in Akron.

Tyler was sentenced Tuesday by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison McCarty. Tyler will be eligible for parole after serving 23 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Tyler and a friend of Hardison’s got into an argument outside the bar. Tyler went inside and got a gun from a friend and went back outside and started shooting.

Hardison suffered fatal gunshot wounds and later died. His friend also suffered gunshot wounds, but he survived.

A second person charged in Hardison’s death, Le’Zonn Gervins, 32, pleaded guilty in July to obstructing official business. She is scheduled to appear at an Oct. 24 sentencing hearing.
