Professional Baseball: Smoker remains on DL for Mets; Culberson activated

July 7, 2017 GMT

Three former local baseball standouts from Calhoun High are currently competing at different levels of professional baseball. Here’s a look at how each of them are doing currently:

Josh Smoker, New York Mets (MLB)

Smoker was placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Mets on June 14 with a left shoulder strain. Before that, the former Jacket had pitched in 22 games for New York, racking up 29 innings of work. He has a 1-2 record this season with a 7.45 ERA, 36 strikeouts and 17 walks in two separate stints in the Majors. He spent two weeks in Triple-A in May as he started two games for the Las Vegas 51s and had a 1.04 ERA and eight strikeouts in that time. He was recalled by the Mets on May 23 and has pitched in seven games since, the most recent coming on June 13.

Charlie Culberson, Oklahoma City Dodgers (AAA affiliate of LA Dodgers)

Culberson has been with Oklahoma City since the Dodgers left Spring Training in March and has been playing well of late. The infielder/outfielder has played in 60 games for OKC this season and is batting .257 with seven doubles, three triples, three homers and 22 RBIs. The former Jacket has also scored 20 runs and stolen two bases. Culberson, who is in his 11th professional season, was activated from the disabled list on July 4 and has two hits and an RBI in the two games he has played in since returning through Thursday as he looks for a midseason call-up.

Josh McAdams, Lake Erie Crushers (Independent League)

McAdams signed to play with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League this past spring after spending the 2012-2014 seasons in the Cleveland Indians Minor League system. In 40 games so far this year, the outfielder is batting .242 with 32 total hits, including nine doubles, three homers and 14 RBIs. The former Jacket has also scored 16 runs and stolen six bases. He has a .984 fielding percentage while playing multiple positions. McAdams was selected by the Indians in the seventh round of the 2012 MLB Draft before being released by the club in 2015.
