1935-2018

Carolena Elaine Bagnall Rasmussen, 82 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (UVRMC). She was born December 15, 1935 in Moroni, Utah to Lewis Rawlin Bagnall and Sarah Utahna Jensen.

She married Gary Ellsworth Rasmussen in the Manti LDS Temple on July 29, 1955. They divorced in June of 1994. Carolena loved life. She spent her young childhood days in Chester and moved with her family to Ephraim as she was approaching her teenage years.

She loved school and making friends. She graduated from high-school and Snow College in Ephraim. She married soon after college and didn’t take much time before she started having her family of 9 children. She and her husband lived in Ephraim, Gunnison, Cedar City, Brigham City, Boulder City, NV, and ended up in Manti where she stayed until after their divorce. She then moved to Orem where she spent the past 20 years.

Carolena spent her whole life serving others. Foremost she was a devoted mother and grandmother loving and serving her 9 children and 35 grandchildren up until she passed away.

She was an accomplished seamstress, making her own wedding gown and outfitting her family for years. She was a marvelous cook. She served in many church callings. She was creative in all her efforts, a hard worker. Many a time she went to work with her husband to help with a job in their drywall business and spraying acoustic ceilings all while raising kids at home. They worked paper routes for a time. She spent many years caring for her aging mother and her husband’s aging parents. She was an incredible example of service.

She had the patience of Job. She was courageous and faithful having gone through many challenging health conditions. She was a good listener. Many nights she stayed up waiting for the last one to come through the door ready to console or hear the excitement of the day. She was a piano player and often accompanied her husband while practicing his musical numbers. She made and delivered innumerable lunches to our father’s job sites whether in town or on the farm. She worked at the Ephraim fabric store, the Manti Senior Citizen Center. She worked with a couple of her children at Sperry Univac in Ephraim and has lots of fun with them.

Carolena is survived by her 9 children – Rees (Yvonne) Rasmussen, Orem; Laurie (Kory) Ballard, South Ogden; Debra (Todd) Newman, Tremonton; Cynthia (Cameron) Vaughn, Orem; Ronald (Tracy) Rasmussen, Ephraim; Rick (Melinda) Rasmussen, Ephraim; Jacqueline Rasmussen, Orem; Jaymie Evertsen, Farmington; Malinda Liddiard, Orem; 35 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her sister, Colleen (Dr. Calvert T.) Larsen.

Carolena was preceded in death by her parents, and her younger brother, Lewis Rawlin Bagnall, II.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 in the Orem 7th Ward Building, 365 S. 900 E., Orem, Utah. The viewing will begin at 9:00 and go until 10:30 a.m. The funeral begins at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Ephraim City Cemetery at approximately 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Her family would like to express their extreme gratitude and appreciation for all those who cared for our mother at Orem Rehab Center, Legacy Assisted Living (Provo), and at UVRMC. There are angels among us who work at these places. We also appreciate the Orem 7th Ward members who reached out in many ways to visit and care for our mother. She LOVED all the visits. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
