Speaker to discuss sports rivalry, focusing on Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An associate professor of sports commerce will discuss rivalry in sports as part of the Paul A. Olson Great Plains seminars.
Cody Havard’s talk is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Great Plains Studies, 1155 Q St., in Lincoln. He teaches at the University of Memphis.
His talk is titled “Us, Them and We: Sport Rivalry in the Cornhusker State and Beyond.” It will cover what fans, organizations and researchers can do to better understand rivalry and address fan behavior.
He says he’ll discuss “both positive and negative outcomes of rivalry, and how sport teams can help promote a safe and fan-friendly environment at games.”
