Florence scrap yard burns for second time in two months
FLORENCE, S.C. -- Firefighters from northern Florence County agencies Tuesday morning battled a large fire at a Lucas Street scrap yard for the second time in as many months.
West Florence and Florence firefighters responded about 10 a.m. to American Steel and Recycling on Pecan Street and arrived to find several piles of cars burning.
They had the fire controlled by noon but remained on scene into the afternoon hitting hot spots.
Tuesday’s fire was smaller in area than the March 21 blaze at the same scrapyard.
West Florence and Florence firefighters were joined by Howe Springs and Windy Hill firefighters, medics with Florence County EMS, law enforcement officers from Florence County Sheriff’s Office and Florence Police Department as well as the American Red Cross.
Sardis-Timmonsville firefighters responded to standby at West Florence Fire Department stations during the fire.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
