Registration is open for kids’ theater camp

HUNTINGTON - Eddie Harbert’s annual Camp Hope Theater Camp for tweens and teens (ages 11 to 18) is now taking applications for summer camp.

The camps are held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, on 2248 Adams Ave., in Huntington.

The younger camp (for ages 5 to 11) starts on June 10 and runs 9 a.m. to noon until June 28. On the evenings of June 28-29, the group will be performing Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh, Jr.,” which is about a 20- to 30-minute show.

The older camp (for ages 11 to 18) will run 9 a.m. to noon from July 9 through July 26. On July 26-27, the camp kids will put up the musical, “Mary Poppins, Jr.”

“The camps are limited to 15 kids only. It is first come, first serve. Registration is now being taken. Registration is $300,” Harbert said. “Scholarships are available. We need to know they need a scholarship by May 1.”

The camp in its ninth year and features Harbert, a veteran theater and musical director as well long-time staff and theater veterans as Coni Anthony, Carol Scarberry, Peggy Watts and Maggie Moore. It is also accessible and is open to special needs kids. The theater camp is sponsored in part by Dutch Miller and the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia.

“This is the first year that registration forms are online. Send a $25 non-refundable fee to save your place and then the rest of the payment is due on the first day of camp,” Harbert said.
