Crash Kills Power To 1.2K Residents In Back Mountain

May 31, 2018

KINGSTON TWP. — A courteous truck driver inadvertently knocked out power to more than 1,200 UGI customers and caused traffic lights on Memorial Highway to stop working Wednesday afternoon. According to first responders, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. behind Dollar General in the Back Mountain Shopping Center. A truck driver backed up to let another truck pass, but the first driver hit a pole and knocked electric transformers to the ground, according to police. The accident turned off power to businesses and to traffic lights. About an hour and a half later, UGI crews restored power to most customers. Five customers in the shopping center would have to wait until crews completed multiple repairs, said spokesman Joseph Swope. Crews from Kingston Twp., Shavertown, Dallas Twp. and Dallas Borough were on the scene. — STAFF REPORT
