Local athletes compete at KHSAA state finals
Trimble County’s Eliza Weston and Ryan Long each posted top 10 finishes at the KHSAA Class 1A State Track & Field Finals at the University of Kentucky in Lexington on Saturday. Weston, an eighth-grader, finished sixth in the girls 3200 meter run in 12:57.64 and was also ninth in the 1600 run in 5:51.96. Long, also an eighth-grader, was 10th in the 200 dash in 23.27. In addition, Carroll County sophomore Dylan Williamson, along with freshman Ravi Patel, won the Unified state championship in the mixed long jump with a combined leap of 19 feet, 9.5 inches. Williamson was also fifth in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 3.5 inches and Williamson and Patel teamed up to place fifth in the 100-meter relay in 16.83. Murray won the girls state championship with a total of 93 points while Trimble was tied for 33rd with three points. Fort Knox claimed the boys team title with 65.5 points.
