Longtime tribal museum researcher sees his job eliminated
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) — A longtime researcher at a Connecticut tribal museum says the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe is eliminating his job.
Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center Director of Research Kevin McBride says he learned Monday that the tribe was eliminating his job as a cost-cutting measure. He tells The Day that he suspected it would happen for some time, citing competition from a casino that recently opened in Massachusetts.
MGM Springfield has caused a recent decline in revenue at the tribe’s Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The tribe said in a statement it is grateful for McBride’s work and service, and says it eliminated his position while looking for ways to improve museum operations.
The museum has been without a director since December 2017.
