Two Boxers Advance to Semi Round
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Team New England advanced two boxers to Friday’s semifinals of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions with wins on Thursday.
Jose Ferrer Jr., of New Bedford, won a 4-1 decision in a 114-pound bout over Edgar Dominguez, of Toledo, Ohio, to move on. At 141 pounds, Alejandro Paulino, of New London, Conn., defeated Francois Scarboro Jr., of Morgan City, W. Va., by way of a 5-0 decision.
Team New England also suffered three losses on Thursday. Elizabeth Leddy, of Portland, Maine, lost a 132-pound match to Meri Stewart, of Minneapolis, Minn., in a 5-0 decision. Arika Skoog, of Roxbury, dropped a 3-2 decision to Whitney Gomez, of Bend, Ore., in a 141-pound bout. And Francis Hogan, of Weymouth, lost a 3-2 decision to Jonas Sylvain, of Boca Raton, Fla., in a 165-pound bout.
