Jeff Blashill will coach U.S. at world championships again
Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill has been named head coach of the 2018 U.S. men’s national team, it was announced Monday. The team will compete in the IIHF world championships May 4-20 in Denmark.
This is the second consecutive year Blashill will head the U.S. national team. Last year, Blashill led the Americans to a fifth-place finish in the world championships in Germany and France, on a team that included Dylan Larkin and Jimmy Howard.
“We’re excited to have Jeff back leading our team,” said Bill Zito, general manager of the U.S. national team.
Sweden won the 2017 world championship, defeating Canada 2-1 in the gold medal game.
