August 2, 2017 GMT

A man was shot dead at a 7-Eleven convenience store on the city’s South Side early Wednesday morning, the third homicide in the city in the past week.

The shooting was reported at 12:16 a.m. at the store at 2703 W. Beltline Highway, Madison police said.

Another man was injured and was taken to a local hospital.

Police said it was a targeted shooting and was not an attempted robbery of the store, according to media reports.

This is the 10th homicide of 2017 in Madison, tying the record of most homicides in the city set in 2008.

Police chief Mike Koval is scheduled to hold a press conference this morning.

Riccardo Simms was shot and killed early last Tuesday morning on the city’s Southwest Side, and Ciara Philumalee was shot and killed early Friday morning in a shooting on the city’s North Side.
