Suspect in custody for shooting that killed man, 3-year-old
RIO GRANDE CITY — One suspect is in custody in connection to the shooting that killed a man and his 3-year-old son, according to the Starr County District Attorney’s office.
Hector Garcia Jr., 41, and his son Julian Garcia were gunned down at about 6:10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 by several individuals driving a blue, Ford pick-up at the intersection of Woods Brothers Road and Segunada Road in Rio Grande City.
The older Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene while the child was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
“We can say at least one suspect (is) in custody,” confirmed District Attorney Omar Escobar.
While the DA’s office confirmed one suspect was taken into custody within the past week, the sheriff’s office denied having anyone in custody who has been charged in the case.
“Witnesses have been questioned about (the) shooting,” Maj. Carlos Delgado, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said in a statement. “There are no arrests at this point regarding the shooting.”
The perpetrators in this case would be facing capital murder charges.
Both offices stated no other information would be made available as the investigation by the Texas Rangers is ongoing.
