Badgers men’s hockey: Cameron Hughes, Matthew Freytag net Big Ten honors
A pair of University of Wisconsin men’s hockey players were awarded Big Ten Conference weekly honors on Tuesday.
Forwards Cameron Hughes and Matthew Freytag were named the league’s first and second stars of the week, respectively.
Hughes had the overtime winner against No. 8 Ohio State on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The junior also posted two assists in a pair of victories over the Buckeyes.
Freytag, who had one goal this season entering the series, scored in each game for the Badgers. The sophomore led conference players with nine shots on goal on the weekend.
The awards marked the second time in four weeks that two UW players were among the weekly three stars. It also happened Jan. 10, when forwards Seamus Malone and Luke Kunin captured the first and third stars, respectively.
Minnesota goaltender Eric Schierhorn was named this week’s third star.
