Hermes takes sixth in Class 5A high jump

Mike Hermes of Friendswood placed sixth in the Class 5A high jump with an effort of 6 feet, 4 inches at the University Interscholastic League state track and field meet this weekend.

Clear Brook sprinter Camryn Dixon placed eighth in the girls’ 100 meters with a time of 11.88.

Sophomore Chrystal Herpin of Dawson took third in the discus with a throw of 146 feet, 11 inches and claimed fifth in the shot put at 43 feet, 8 ¼ inches.

Lady Eagle Amari Ferguson finished eighth in the girls’ 100-hurdles with a time of 14.64.

Using his experience last year to propel him, Kirk Collins of Clear Springs won the Class 6A 110-meter hurdles, running a 13.82 time to edge Treyvon Mays of Spring (13.85).

Collins also picked up a silver medal, running a 36.86 time in the 300-meter hurdles. He barely missed claiming first place as he was nipped at the wire by Ryan Williams of Arlington Bowie who had a winning time of 36.81.

Clear Falls’ girls 1,600-meter relay team of Kennedy Wade, Afiah Brathwaite, Destiny Muckelroy and Chermariea Hardy almost won a gold medal with their blistering time of 3:42.58, but finished second to defending state champion DeSoto which blazed home in 3:39.79.

Other results from area athletes Saturday night:

Clear Springs’ Lionell Frederick finished seventh in the boys’ discus (165-3).

Clear Falls’ Kennedy Wade finished sixth in the girls’ 800 meters (2:13.56).

Clear Falls’ Chermariea Hardy finished seventh in the girls’ 400 meters (55.83).

Clear Creek’s Olivia Leuking finished seventh in the girls’ pole vault (12-0).
