Kids invited to join library birding club
The Mary S. Biesecker Public Library in Somerset in partnership with the California Academy of Sciences is inviting children in grades 5 to 8 to join Science Action Club this spring. This club will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays in May.
Club members will explore feathers, flight and the features that make birds unique, learn basic birding skills and investigate environmental changes that impact bird behavior.
They will conduct local bird counts and submit their observation checklists to eBird, a citizen science project from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society that helps scientists track changes in bird distribution and abundance across the globe.
Register at the library, online at www.maryslibrary.com or call 814-445-4011. There is no fee to participate. The library is located at 230 S. Rosina Ave., Somerset.
