Crosby’s Kroger to close in April after 40 years in community

After serving Crosby and Huffman since December 1979, the Kroger located on 105 Kennings Road, will officially close its doors in April.

Kroger’s Houston Division Corporate Affairs Manager Sparkle Anderson said Kroger officials have attempted to increase sales, profitability and the shopping experience at the Crosby location for years. However, it has not worked, she said.

The 61 employees who currently work at this location will be offered positions in nearby Kroger stores.

Anderson said there are no plans for closing any other Kroger location in the Houston area this year.

With the closing of this Kroger location in April, that would leave Walmart and Aldi as the only major grocery retailers in the Crosby area.

Crosby-Huffman Chamber of Commerce President Kim Harris said she and other Crosby residents hope another major retailer like H-E-B will take over the future vacant building.

“This community is growing and growing and we can definitely use and H-E-B or a Kroger,” Harris said.
