Accident shares dangers of distracted driving
WAUPUN -- Students at Waupun Area Junior/Senior High School saw firsthand the dangers and potential consequences of distracted driving during a mock crash held Thursday morning in the school parking lot.
The event was coordinated by students in the Senior Democratic Survey -- a class which promotes senior involvement in the school and the community -- in advance of Saturday’s prom. Those involved in staging the accident include student actors, members of the Waupun police and fire departments, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Lifestar Ambulance, Flight For Life, school staff and other community partners.
Following the morning demonstration, students broke for lunch and then met with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team and learned how the team determines the mechanics of a crash and contributing factors. Other speakers also presented during the afternoon session.
