Kathleen Ryan Dean, 86, of Lincoln, and formerly of Kankakee, passed away Friday (Oct. 26, 2018) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
She was born March 14, 1932, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Ryan Sr. and Jeanette Bowman Ryan. Kathleen married M. Duane Dean on May 23, 1954. He preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1982.
Kathleen was a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, had worked at the veterans home, had been a county nurse for 12 years and also had worked for Dr. Nourie.
She was a 1950 graduate of Kankakee High School and a 1953 graduate of Silver Cross School of Nursing and Joliet Junior College.
Kathleen enjoyed doing needlepoint, crocheting, reading and making 60 Christmas stockings for family and relatives, and she especially loved being with her grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of Asbury U.M.C. and a past member of Women of the Moose.
Surviving are sons, Brian and Beth Dean, of Antioch, Thomas and Andrea Dean, of Oswego, and Douglas Dean (Amy), of Lincoln; daughters, Kathy Pangle, of Bourbonnais, and Jan and Bruce Carmitchel, of Lincoln; brother, former governor George A. Ryan, of Kankakee; along with 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Thomas J. Ryan Jr.; sister, Nancy Ferguson; and one grandson, Jason Clark.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Henley officiating. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Aroma Township.
