AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Authorities say a head-on collision has claimed the lives of two people in Augusta, Maine.

Augusta police say one of the vehicles crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle Monday morning on Route 3, closing the busy east-west road for several hours.

One of the drivers was pronounce dead at the scene, and the other died at a hospital.

The victims weren't immediately identified.

A third vehicle involved in the crash was a Togus Police vehicle that sustained minor damage. Police say the officer was taken to the hospital for observation.
