LINDSAY — Services for Merlin Stone, 91, rural St. Edward, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Holy Family Church in Lindsay. Burial will be in Looking Glass Cemetery in rural Newman Grove.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. rosary at the church.
He died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Newman Grove Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Newman Grove Fire & Rescue or to the Boone County Health Center.
Merlin LeRoy Stone was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Newman Grove to Maynard and Minnie (Miller) Stone. He attended school at Platte County Rural District 40 and Newman Grove High School, graduating with the class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from April 1946 until October 1947.
Merlin was united in marriage to Bernette “Pat” Beiermann on Feb. 5, 1951, in Norfolk. He enjoyed many activities, such as bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives. Over the years, he was engaged in farming, worked at Behlen Manufacturing and was a road maintenance operator for the Walker Township.
He was a member of the American Legion Newman Grove Post 73, Shell Creek Bowling League and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay.
He is survived by a son, Michael Stone of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Marcia Stone Smith of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a son, Charles (Paula) Stone of Newman Grove; four grandchildren, Patrick (Amanda) Smith, Karen Smith, Kyle Stone and Rebecca Stone; two great-grandchildren, Zaylie Smith and Zachary Smith; his siblings, Leon (Ruth) Stone and Marvin (Lucille) Stone; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Stone.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Pat; his parents, Maynard and Minnie Stone; and a brother, Leland Stone.
