Police: Armed robbery didn’t happen

October 26, 2017 GMT

DIXON – A Coleta man is facing a felony charge after police said he lied to them, reporting an armed robbery that never happened.

Justin Hoffman, 27, told police a masked man entered Brothers Flooring, 1419 North Galena Ave., just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, brandished a pistol and demanded money. Police issued a call for help finding the man, described as white, about 6 feet tall, wearing a gray hoodie, jeans, a black mask and gloves.

The investigation revealed, however, that the robbery was fabricated, they said.

Hoffman turned himself in to Dixon police today. He is charged with felony disorderly conduct, which carries 1 to 3 years in prison.
