He succeeds Bill Hastings who retired effective Jan. 15. Pat Adams was the first chief followed by R.L. “Buddy” Frazier. Like Adams, Diaz is a veteran of the Texas Department of Public Safety where he worked 23 years, the last eight as a Texas Ranger.
