Pittsburgh officer shot, suspect dead in exchange of gunfire
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities on Friday released the name of the man who was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire that left a Pittsburgh police detective wounded.
Elijah Brewer, 25, died at a hospital Thursday night following the shooting, which took place during a traffic stop on East Ohio Street, the Allegheny County medical examiner said.
According to Allegheny County Police, four detectives had stopped the vehicle, which had a driver and passenger, when there was an exchange of gunfire between the officers and the passenger.
The detective was shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital, where he was described as alert and recovering.
“Fortunately, he is going to make it,” Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said.
The shooting will be investigated by Allegheny County police.
Police did not release further details.
